Why has God brought suffering,
And beaten us in our distress?
Is this how He is punishing,
Vindictive in capriciousness?
He humbles those opposed to Him:
The posers and the hypocrites,
Then are you worshiping your sin,
And therefore are not truly His?
But God always expands His grace,
And shows Himself to everyone,
And though we do not see His ways,
He’s turning rebels into sons.
He calls His people to repent,
And therefore sends calamity,
That we may quickly turn to Him,
He shocks us out of apathy.

This Miraculous Son (I Samuel 1:12-28)by amoswilson |
When I fasted in mourning and cried,
While my rival provoked me to grief,
And the man that I love chose to chide,
Since I would not drink, nor would I eat.
Though undrinking, rebuked as if drunk,
By the war-weary priest of the Lord,
By this final rebuke I am stung,
Yet still I’ll be gracious in word.
Now I cast off my sorrowful face.
Having faith that God heard my request.
And he gave me a son by His grace,
Evermore His great name will I bless.
May your soul live! Sir, I was the one,
Who had prayed at your feet in her tears.
Now behold this miraculous son!
He will worship God all of his years.

Memorial (Psalm 44:1-8)
by amoswilson
Lord, we have heard of Your historic deeds,
Your providence our fathers preached to us,
By Your defense from tyrants they were freed,
With confidence in You they put their trust.
You raised up heroes who would act for You,
From Moses, Joshua, Gideon, and more,
To You and You alone is all the credit due,
For You gave victory when they made war.
Let my memorial be only Christ,
His guiding hand will be my only boast.
I’ll tell my kids his graces in my life,
When I was aided by the Lord of Hosts.
